Israel’s Foreign Minister has provided details on the recognition of Somaliland.
“I was pleased to speak shortly with the President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, on this important day for both of us,” the Israeli Foreign Minister said in a statement.
The Israeli Foreign Minister acknowledged that the past year has seen a significant increase in relations between the two countries.
“Over the past year, based on extensive and regular dialogue, relations between Israel and Somaliland have taken on a clear shape and direction. In line with the decision,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Israel also said the two sides would exchange ambassadors.
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi today signed an agreement on mutual recognition and the establishment of full diplomatic relations, which will include the appointment of ambassadors and the opening of embassies.”
“We will work together to advance the relationship between our countries and peoples, regional stability, and economic prosperity. I have instructed my ministry to take immediate steps to formalize and strengthen the relationship between our two countries in many different areas.”
