The Egyptian Foreign Minister participated in a telephone conversation

The Egyptian Foreign Minister participated in a telephone conversation with the Foreign Ministers of Somalia, Turkey and Djibouti, who discussed developments in the Horn of Africa, according to a statement posted on the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s website.

The ministers discussed “issues related to Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region, while the ministers expressed their full rejection and condemnation of this move, and reaffirmed their full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. They clearly rejected any unilateral action that undermines Somalia’s sovereignty or undermines the foundations of stability in the country. They also expressed their support for the legitimate institutions of the Somali state, rejecting any attempt to create or impose parallel institutions that contradict the unity of the Somali nation,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement added, “The discussions also stressed that the recognition of the sovereignty of parts of the territory of countries is a dangerous precedent that threatens international peace and security, and is contrary to the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

The statement issued by the parties also calls for the protection of Somalia’s sovereignty.

“It was noted that respect for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is a fundamental pillar of the stability of the international order, and that it must not be undermined or circumvented under any pretext,” it said.

It also stressed its rejection of any attempt to create a new status quo or to establish parallel institutions that contradict international law and undermine the opportunities for achieving security, stability and development. The talks also clearly expressed a complete rejection of any plan to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, which has been rejected by most countries in the world, in form and substance.
